A big day for the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership. It has been the launch with the guests including two MPs of a tri-partite partnership: Ourselves, Newcastle College Rail Academy and Cross Country. The months ahead will see Rail Academy students undertaking practical tasks along the line. Cross Country has funded a classroom and this superb photo montage. The sixty miles of railway line between Newcastle and Carlisle passes through a UNESCO World Heritage site, the homes of some of this country's industrial giants featuring the birthplace of steam railways, and borders both the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Northumberland National Park. Additionally several national long distance trails meet the railway including the pioneering Pennine Way.
