Taking the Railway to the Community in the Tyne Valley.
The last few weeks have been very busy for the volunteers of the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership, as they promote the Tyne Valley Railway and the operator Northern.
Last month the TVCRP took part in Community Rail in the City at Glasgow Central Station. Our Tourism Intern, Matthew Barrett, constructed a model of the Roman Wall which was painted by the Platform Painters of Haltwhistle. As the Tyne Valley Railway runs through Hadrian's Wall Country, it seemed such a waste to use this wall for only one event, it has been adapted and has now been used on several occasions to promote the railway and several Hadrian's Wall attractions.

For the first time ever, the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership will be participating in Heritage Open Days, over two days Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September 2017.
This will be at Haltwhistle station on the Newcastle to Carlisle railway line, Britain’s first cross country railway, which runs parallel to Hadrian’s Wall. Not only is this a first for us, but we shall be opening the 1901 Haltwhistle Grade ll listed signal box. This is one of the BBC’s top ten signal boxes. Access is being granted courtesy of Network Rail and Northern.

The sixty miles of railway line between Newcastle and Carlisle passes through a UNESCO World Heritage site, the homes of some of this country's industrial giants featuring the birthplace of steam railways, and borders both the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Northumberland National Park. Additionally several national long distance trails meet the railway including the pioneering Pennine Way.

It has been the launch with the guests including two MPs of a tri-partite partnership: Ourselves, Newcastle College Rail Academy and Cross Country. The months ahead will see Rail Academy students undertaking practical tasks along the line. Cross Country has funded a classroom and this superb photo montage. In shot is Haltwhistle and the three people (L to R) are TVCRP officer Fiona Forsythe, Chris Leech Cross Country's Business Community Manager and Anna Weeks Northern's North East Region.
