Two TVCRP projects feature on the list of shortlisted entries for the prestigious national Community Rail Awards 2026.
A Song for Edmondson has been shortlisted in the Railway 200 Legacy Award category.
With the help of singer songwriters, Gareth and Bronnie Davies-Jones, schoolchildren from Hallbankgate Village School and Lanercost CoE Primary School helped to write songs about the first stationmaster of Milton Station (renamed Brampton) and inventor of the rail ticketing system and the reasons why the Brampton Station is 1.8 miles from the town.
Whilst learning about the history of Brampton Station and the Tyne Valley Railway, the children celebrated railway heritage, learned new skills and enjoyed new experiences including travelling by train and public performance.
Lanercost Priory provided a spectacular backdrop for the premiere of the songs and you can watch the performances on YouTube.
Our entry, Celebrating Haltwhistle, has been shortlisted in the Most Enhanced Railway Spaces category.
Haltwhistle Railway Station has been transformed. As well as a railway station where people travel to and from by train, it is now an asset for the community.
Completion of the long-term project to repurpose the redundant station buildings creating offices/studios rented to local businesses and the refurbished the waiting rooms featuring exhibitions are appreciated by passengers and visitors. The more recent projects to transform the former water tower into a cafe/events space with monthly makers markets has enhanced the station and contributes to the local economy and the installation of a colourful human sundial illustrates to visitors how railways standardised time.
We are grateful to our rail industry partners for supporting these projects.
The Community Rail Awards event takes place in Derby on 19 March 2026. You can see the full list of shortlisted entries on Community Rail Network's website.
