As a result of the engineering work on the West Coast Main Line, a limited service will run on the Tyne Valley Railway on 1 January 2026. Normally, no services operate on New Year's Day. This is a very welcome development as the route is one of the few in the country that does not have a New Year's Day service.
A two-hourly service will run Newcastle to/from Carlisle, calling at Haltwhistle, Hexham, Prudhoe and the MetroCentre. Check the train times for 1 January in the image or check the complete timetable starting on 14 December 2025, which is available here

This is a brilliant opportunity for people wishing to travel to see friends and family, for leisure activities or for returning home after the festive period.
We would love to see services on New Year's Day in future years.
