Children and teachers from Hallbankgate Village School and Lanercost CoE Primary School were invited to re-visit Lanercost Priory, the venue for the public performance by the schools of A Song for Edmondson earlier this year.
Anne Ridley from Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership welcomed the schools and singer-songwriters Gareth and Bronwen Davies-Jones, who had worked with the teachers and children to write and perform the songs. She said the project had received excellent feedback, throwing a spotlight of the heritage of Brampton Station. It had been entered for an award and had led to other ideas about how schools across the country could engage with their songs.
She presented the schools with displays featuring the words of their songs, Edmondson and One Point Eight Miles, and unveiled a display about the project including the lyrics to be installed at Brampton Station.
T
he children’s continuing enthusiasm for the project was obvious; they were thrilled to receive a railway teddy bear for each school and to learn that Gareth and Bronwen are working with the local secondary school, William Howard, on another Railway 200 linked musical project highlighting the railway heritage associated with Brampton.
After the presentation, the display board was
installed at Brampton Station so passengers can learn about the project, read the song lyrics, and scan the QR to take them to the videos of the event at Lanercost Priory on TVCRP’s YouTube channel.
We are grateful for the support of CrossCountry and Community Rail Network/DfT CRDF in helping us to create such a fun project celebrating Railway 200, Thomas Edmondson and Brampton Station.
