The next railway themed talk will explore the legacy of North East railway pioneer, Robert Stephenson.  We are delighted that members of the Robert Stephenson Trust will be coming along to the Old Booking Hall on Thursday, 16 October to talk about this great railway innovator.  Incidentally, the talk coincides with Robert Stephenson's birthday.

You will be enthralled by the story of Stephenson from his humble beginnings on Tyneside to his rise to eminence as the outstanding engineer of his generation before his early death and the posthumous honour of being only the second member of his profession to be buried at Westminster Abbey.

Robert StephensonThe talk starts at4pm and will be followed by a soup and sweet meal in the 1861 Water Tower Cafe.

Tickets costs £10 per person and can be purchased in the Water Tower Cafe (Wednesdays-Sundays 10am-4pm) or online at https://tinyurl.com/ebfs2zw3

Spaces are limited and pre-booking is essential.

The Robert Stephenson Trust was established in the 1990s;  striving to ensure the survival of the remaining Robert Stephenson & Company locomotive works and to promote awareness of his achievements, acknowledging how Robert's early years were bound up with George, his father's own career.

The Trust will be bringing copies of their new book Robert Stephenson FRS and other publications for sale on the evening (cash preferred for any purchases).

We will be announcing further events in due course as we celebrate 200 years of railways and Railway 200.
