From 4 July, some of the restrictions on rail travel are being eased. Face coverings must be worn at stations and on trains. There are exceptions for young children and those with disabilities and conditions which make it difficult for them to wear a face covering. Please avoid busy times of travel, buy tickets online or use a contactless card, wash your hands before and after travel and/or use hand sanitiser and keep your distance from others.
Northern have introduced Penalty for passengers on the Tyne Valley Railway who do not have a valid ticket or Promise to Pay Notice. These penalty fares are being extended to other routes operated by Northern, so don't get caught out. More details are available on Northern's website.
Remember you can claim compensation under the Delay Repay Scheme operated by Northern and other train companies if you train is cancelled or if you arrive at your destination station 30 minutes or more late. Northern provide compensation for late arrivals of 15 minutes or more late.

We were the first Community Rail Partnership to achieve re-accreditation following a review by the DfT/Community Rail Network. More details can be found in our news item.
Our objectives, representation and governance explained.
Our core aim is to promote, strengthen and protect the role of the Tyne Valley Railway Line for residents, tourists, employees, and service providers acknowledging the four pillars of the Department of Transport's Community Rail Strategy. This is reflected in the following areas:
- Increase community involvement in the railway and encourage the railway industry to engage with communities
- Develop the social and economic benefits which a railway can bring to its community
- Find new use for out of use railway buildings
- Encourage all to travel safely

The Partnership Board consists of representatives of local stakeholders and others with an interest in promoting and protecting the railway as a sustainable means of transport. Read more..
TVCRP is a not for profit company limited by guarantee, employing a part-time officer. The board comprises voluntary directors, officers from the rail industry and other key sectors and co-opted individuals who bring skills and experience in specific areas. TVCRP operates a ‘portfolio’ board in which directors/co-opted members each hold a specific portfolio of interest.
The Partnership has a number of member organisations (local councils, business development organisations etc), who are considered shareholders on the payment of a small annual subscription. They have input to shaping our annual action plans. We welcome enquiries from potential member organisations.
Our Community Ambassadors provide a local link between the Partnership and the communities served by the railway. They help us deliver information about service changes, events on the line, news and developments on a local basis, as well as providing the Partnership with feedback and insights on how the railway and communities can work more closely together.
Station Adopters are community groups who keep an close eye on the stations along the line on behalf of the Partnership and Northern. They monitor the overall condition of their nominated station and help report any faults which may arise, thereby keeping the Tyne Valley line presentable for all who use it. Many adopters take an active part in making the stations a welcoming environment. If you are interested in joining one of our groups contact the TVCRP Officer .

Our offer to Education
Working closely with Northern Railway, we have a great offer for school visits, including:
- Contact with TVCRP Officer to plan your day out to Haltwhistle
- Complimentary return rail travel from any station between Newcastle and Carlisle to/from Haltwhistle (TVCRP Officer will accompany you on your journey)
- A safety briefing to your students covering travelling safely and the dangers of playing near tracks
- Maths activities to do whilst on the journey to Haltwhistle
- Diverse range of educational activities once at Haltwhistle, covering areas such as maths, art, geography, engineering, history, the environment
Your visit will be hosted in and around The Old Booking Hall at Haltwhistle, a refurbished Grade II listed structure with a unisex accessible toilet, small kitchen area, the original booking office windows, complete with desk and ticket racks.
Visits can be tailored to meet the needs of different age groups - please contact contact the TVCRP Officer to discuss options in the first instance.

TVCRP are involved in a number of intiatives long the line. Many have been put on hold during the current restrictions but we are still working in the background on a number of projects for the benefit of the area.

Open in Winter focussed on encouraging residents in rhe Teesside area to travel to the Tyne Valley area by train and visit the shops and attractions which are open during the winter months. You can read more about the project here. One positive outcome is that TransPennine Express have provided further support so that we canencourage travel from more of their stations in Treasures of the Tyne Valley Project. More about this initiative as plans are developed.
The Old Booking Hall at Haltwhistle is available as a meeting room, training hub etc. The Read more about the Old Booking Hall .. A major project to refurbish the waiting rooms at Haltwhistle and the creation of some offices/studios has been developed and it is hoped that during the next few months we will see work commence on the buildings.
Line and Lyric is a new project that engages school, community and mental health organisations. Our Project Officer, Gareth, is a singer songwriter, has been undertaking a series of fun, interactive song-writing workshops with groups creating new songs, which will be performed at stations and on trains.
